What we offer:
9 - 12 year olds

Our classes for the 9-12 year old age group build on pupils’ love of dance and refine their technique, strength, flexibility and confidence as a performer. This can be a tricky age for children as their bodies are rapidly developing and so it is vitally important that learning takes place in a safe, consistent way with fully qualified teachers who understand this.

A range of classes available

  • BALLET - ROYAL ACADEMY OF DANCE (RAD)

Pupils work through the RAD grades and can take optional Exams or Class Awards to recognise their hard work during each grade. Each grade will normally take 12-18 months depending on the class. In these Grades pupils build on the fundamentals of ballet technique, learning more complicated movements and developing their performance skills.

  • TAP - IMPERIAL SOCIETY OF TEACHERS OF DANCE (ISTD)

Pupils work through the ISTD grades and can take optional Exams to recognise their hard work during each grade. Each grade will normally take 12-18 months depending on the class. In these Grades pupils build on the fundamentals of tap and rhythm in more complicated exercises and amalgamations.

  • MODERN - IMPERIAL SOCIETY OF TEAHERS OF DANCE (ISTD)

Pupils work through the ISTD grades and can take optional Exams to recognise their hard work during each grade. Each grade will normally take 12-18 months depending on the class. In these Grades pupils build on the fundamentals of modern dance learning more complicated sequences and movements.

  • MUSICAL THEATRE

Our Musical Theatre classes develop pupils’ dancing, singing and stage performance skills. Pupils learn routines from all different musicals, old and new, and pupils learn to be expressive through song and movement. We introduce many more types of musical theatre style for this age group.

  • CONTEMPORARY

    From school year 6

Our Contemporary syllabus uses a varied mix of Contemporary techniques such as Release and Cunningham supported with work from the iD Dance syllabus. Classes encourage pupils to embrace their individuality and the way their bodies move. Contemporary allows dancers to transform a performance based on their own interpretations of the movement. This is achieved with strong ballet-influenced leg movements, fall and recovery, use of suspension, floorwork and improvisation.

For pupils to really benefit from Contemporary we advise that they take either a ballet or modern class with us as well.

  • ACRO

Our Acro classes teach strength, flexibility, balance and limbering so that pupils begin to learn the necessary skills for tricks and partner work. Acro dance is not the same as gymnastics, it is instead the artistic motion of dance alongside the athleticism of acrobatics.
